So much so that I imported “RPG Tsukuru 5” from Japan for the PlayStation 2, and rebought the English version when it was released as RPG Maker 2. It was admittedly still a lot of work but I got hooked. (Spoiler alert: It ends with him finding a land filled with cute little yellow chicks instead of chicks of the figurative kind.) I quickly nabbed the last remaining copy on a Gamestop shelf back in 1997 and proceeded to make an RPG about my brother’s search for chicks. You mean I could make my own game without having to study coding? Sign me up! It’s a big reason why my interest was definitely piqued when I first found out about the RPG Maker series. I remember going to my grandfather’s office, grabbing pieces of paper, and drawing NES-style levels inspired by Super Mario Bros., Mega Man and Castlevania with derivative characters inspired by the gaming heroes of the day.
